Winter Flies
Here's a selection of winter trout flies for the famous Tongariro River and surrounding areas. During winter the lake dwelling rainbows run up from the lake to spawn in the tributary rivers providing great sport for the angler. Egg patterns predominate with heavier Bombs to sink them down. When the rivers are low and clear smaller sizes and more natural nymph patterns work well. The river mouths are also hot spots
