Leaders & Tippets
The essential connection between your fly line and the fish. Tapered leaders provide the link, the taper helps the leader 'turn over' and present the fly. Generally longer leaders are better as there is more distance between your fly and fly line and therefore less risk of lining your fish. So while the beginner might use a 9' leader the expert will extend that out with extra sections of tippet to 15 - 16 feet or more. The heavier leader like the Power Taper are good for that.
To the end of your leader attach sections of tippet material to further extend the leader and to bring it down to a fine end section to which you tie on your fly
