A Magic day in Ultimata Thule...

On the 8 of july me and the misses went up to the deep north of Sweden
via the inland road aka trout route 1. After stopping by at friend who
lives half way up for some grayling fishing we ventured on
the last 600km on bad roads and worse than bad roads.

We arrived at 4PM and was great with the famous laponian
hospitality and was treated to a great dinner consiting of
Rain deer fillet, almond potatoes and a chanterelle sauce
that was to die for. But after the dessert the famous itch
was all over me and Andreas and I geared up for the
first nights fishing.

After a 1 hour kidney destroying road tripp on cattle
roads we got out of the car and hiked the last 5 miles
to River A. We got there around 22:00 and only the
small graylings were rising to a small species of caddis
that is ever present at this stream all summer long.

We sat down at the stream side and just look at
the sun that was easing down ever so slowly.
After an hour of good talks something bumped into my
hear and i looked over my shoulder and saw a mega caddis
of about 2,5 inches sitting on there. Once more we had
managed to get in time to Swedens version of
the salmofly hatch!!!!!

After 10 more minutes the
first big trout rose and what i rise it was!! It looked
like somebody punched big holes in the surface from underneath
and the Phrygnea Grandisis seem to be sucked into
a black hole from outer space.

I put on a Ismo puppae size 6 and crept
up to the riser and waited untill he sucked in two more
caddis and then i casted 10 feet upstream and slowly
retrived the puppae downstream. Then a huge head came up
from tha abyss and grab hold of the the mega puppae.
I said good save our precious queen slowly and then
rose the old Sage four weight. The trout feelt the sting
and raced down to a deep and hole just beneath were i was
standing and started to trash around with its big head.

The weight was massive and the shakes almost ripped
the rod out of my hands. I got bellow the fish and gave him
some sidway pressure and he wasn"t keen on that so
he raced across the stream and made swirls more fit for small
dolphins. Then he leaped out of the water and my jaws
just went down to ground in pure awe!!!

I slowly realized that this was the fish of a lifetime and
got the complete shakes. Andreas told me to stopp shaking
and fight that fush as any other trout we caught together.

After some more runs and swirls it started to feel like it
was my time to get that trophy so i started pressuring
him like crazy and soon Andreas could get half the fish into
the Mclean net and then it started saltoing inside the net and got
out betwheen he ****ing legs!! He sidestep quickly and tailed
the fush insted and i gave up a cry that maybe even was heared
in the states!!

My first trophy was fact and it wasnt taken in a forreign country
it was taken with my best fishing buddy in his homestream
in the great laponia state of my own beutiful country.
We filmed the fish and photografed it plenty and then i gave
him back to the river goods.
If i havent had the pics and the film i wouldnt belive
it my self since all still feels like the best dream i ever dreamt.
30 inches and 10 pounds of pure love..........
