Hi guys 1st post.
I've just picked up a Cortland 555 floating ghost tip rocket taper WF6 F/F. I got it new for $40. I've recently read some poor reviews from the States about it but am yet to try it myself. They said it tangled badly in cold conditions due to coiling and bad memory.

Has anyone over here used it?

My last line was a 444 WF 6F will I be dissapointed with the new line?

Am considering selling it on before I use it.

Everyone one to their own of course, ( i started on Cortland lines too ) , but mate.... if you can buy its cheap, it usually rubbish . End of story !!

Good luck,
Rob

Welcome aboard backcast, I had one and didn't like it at all. Shot OK in hot weather, very slick coating but really no good in the deep south where I was at that time. I think the 444 was a better all round line but prefer Rio or SA lines myself.

After reading the instruction/product registration card inside the box it says to 'Stretch the length of line (2-3ft at a time) to be used prior to casting'.
This could prove to be a pain in the backside.
Am heading over to Lake Brunner in a couple of weeks, will throw it around for the weekend and see how it goes.
If no good you may see it on TM.

I had a 555 line sometime ago. It didn't take long to break down and crack. A confirmed Rio fan now.

Have to say iv got a 444 line that’s now over 20 years old (bought in 1991) and still going strong.  Intermediate so don’t get a whole lot of usage but its outlasted some other brands by that many years it’s just not funny.  Still supple and slick after all those years.

Remind me to show it to you Chris next time your over mate!!

Having said that, it don’t mean that the latest 444's are made as well.

Generally true, but not always. Iv picked up a few SA and Rio lines from the US for around $30-$40US and there has been nothing wrong with them!

I picked up my 444 in 1995. It hasn't had a lot of use and I've kept it out of the sun when stored etc. Never cleaned it or used any lube on it though. It still seems to cast ok, but I'm no pro. As long as I'm not catching myself, bushes, or slapping the water on a false cast I'm generally pretty happy.
If the 555 dosen't work out a freind suggested Airflo Chalkstream.

Don't know much about the Cortland lines - I have SA and some unbranded ones.

All relative of course.

Barrio, Sparton come to mind - quality lines and affordable.  Compared to the lines of yesteryear, even a cheapie Shakespeare is value for money.

But "cheap" is all relative.

The two chalkstreams I've had have not floated well even tho I cleaned and them regularly and put line treatment on them. In fact I call them "sink tips".   :(
