If you are throwing weight at distance then its good for this. If you are looking at it for short line nymphing i feel a 10' 4 wt or similar with a more responsive tip may serve better.

I have to agree with Chris, great rods for specific usage, I had a 599 and still use the 699, love them both for heavy nymph fishing, lake loch style fishing with up to 3 flies and streamer style fishing. But if I was after a short line nymphing rod, 10 foot 4 weight would be my choice. You can never have enough rods!
