I was quite astounded to find this in one of Canterburys prime spawning stream this weekend;

Someone has got in with machinery and diverted water out of the main channel down a small side channel, the side channel has no use as a fishery and no use for salmon spawnning, and the main channel had noticably less water and less fish...
Email sent to F&G

There is some willow removal work going on in one of the streams at the moment Steve. It wasn't anything to do with that was it? Dan

F&G are going to look into this, they have something else they want to acheive with the landowner here to so are planning to discuss both in the near future to see if they can sort it out. There's a new land owner and this was most likely the result of the previous owner.

Finally some action, F&G tell me next month they'll be able to get in and fix this, has to be done by hand so any locals who want a bit of exercise, and to check out the prospects for the coming season let me know, I'll go up and help for sure so can give anyone a lift from Methven
