Hi,getting back into fly fishing after 20yrs.Found this great forum and just joined today.Have a mate coming up to go for a fish tomorrow in the upper Waikanae (above waterworks). Not sure on what fly to use,was thinking Cicada, blowfly humpy, parachute adams or beaded hares ear.And would a mouse work . Any help would be great. :)

Welcome aboard Madmax, can't help with advice on the Waikanae but your choices would catch fish most places at this time of year, not sure about the mouse tho'.

Good luck.

Welcome Madmax, The upper reaches have had a pounding this season, have been up there twice in last month, (my dad was there last week and met 2 other anglers)
A lot of foot prints etc they are still there just very very flighty, but the flies you listed should work, don't overlook simple size16 beadheads hair n copper type stuff, always work for me.

A Waikanae Local:

I had caught him 3 years in a row, this so far he is M.I.A  :(

Hey Mattyd

Spotted your photo while browsing. What a beautiful specimen of brown trout. Sometimes I wonder if all Kiwi anglers realise how lucky they are to have that sort of experience available for a small annual fee.

MIA? Ah well, at least the photo is still there to bring back some great  memories.

Forgot to ask - is the rod in the photo a Scierra? Looks like it might be the HM2 - first one they produced, I think.
