A tribute to Bob Quigley, who died June 12, 2012. The Quigley Cripple is perhaps his best known pattern.



Quigley Cripple (generic)
Hook: Umpqua U204 #14 (or equivalent)
Thread: Benecchi 12/0, tan
Rib: Wire, gold
Shuck: Marabou barbs, dyed golden olive
Abdomen: Marabou barbs, dyed golden olive (continuation of shuck)
Thorax: Squirrel, dyed olive
Wing/stubs: Deer hair

nice looking fly , sorry if this is a dumb question  but how is this fly ment to be fished? is it a dry or wet or whatever, sorry i dont really know to much so thought i would ask, with the marabou i thought it would be a wet but the hackle and deer hair made me think dry as well

Brian,

This is an imitation of a crippled mayfly dun - one partially stuck in the nymphal shuck, trapped in the film. The front of the pattern in/above film, the abdomen and the shuck submerged.

I have one of these that someone tied for me.  Never fished it.  Nice looking fly, though yours is a heck of a lot neater... :)
