I see fuel prices are going up.. In Aussie recently, I saw that the price is a LOT cheaper than here....
So. Given that fuel is going up, is it gong to affect where you fish??

Hell no, just be more organised. Smaller cars that are better on fuel. Hook up with mates, to share fuel costs etc..

Thinking of selling my truck to buy a smaller car. But actually I've been thinking of that for a few years now, just can't bring myself to do it.

It already has changed where I normally fish. I grew up fishing the Mataura anywhere from Gorge Road to Pyramid (30-90km), as in that's the only places I fished. This last year I have only gone over there on the occasional weekend and generally do my evening to evening fishing on the Oreti from Wallacetown to Lochiel (20-30km). I go through about a tank of gas ($120+ depending on prices) each week just fishing over summer, that's plenty in my opinion for general day to day fishing.
Longer trips are done with a group of mates and split costs that way, although these are looking to be about once a month this coming season ... if that

For me instead of 3 or 4 day trips a month I'll now do a 4 to 5 day fishing trip per month. More fishing for my buck. Picking areas that have a lot of different fishing options in a short distance of each other.

Even worse though if you have to go boating to get to a remote spot too…
I think I will be hitting the local spring creeks even more this season - not that I haven't been for the past 5 or so seasons, to the extent that I might go looking for access before 1st of October. For trips away I usually try and hookup with a buddy to go to a river where the both of us can fish (which can be difficult some days).
I saw a couple of guys fly fishing the Heathcote here in Ch-ch very close to my home last Sunday in a stretch I have often fancied but never seen a fish in.

My wife would rather I go for two days fishing to make the cost of fuel worth it rather than me doing day trips to far off places. Suits me fine!

Yes, increased fuel prices have affected my fishing - but not as much as having a toddler...
I'm always stretched for cash and time these days - so spring creeks and rivers close to home tend to be my haunts.
All good though.
