Great news on the cycleway decision. Consent for construction of the section of the trail from the Mount Nicholas road bridge down through the Oreti was refused, with the other sections granted. Thanks to everyone who submitted on this.

Great news for all anglers and users of the valley. Congratulations to Jacob and Staff from Southland Fish and Game, your efforts are appreciated. To all the other submitters, well done your combined efforts have prevented a beautiful valley and fishery from being ruined all in the name of progress (lining someones back pocket). Now we wait to see if they will appeal??

This is great news and thanks to all those who opposed the application. I thought that with SDC applying to itself and then having the hearing before a commissioner they appointed the consent would have been unstoppable. The outcome shows enough opposition can get a good outcome. However they still have to connect the cycle way from the Mt Nicholas Bridge to where they have consent towards Mossburn. As Linz mentioned one way may be to appeal the decision. There will also be more work for all of us to do as I beleive there is still a proposal coming to build accommodation at "Mavora". As far as I can work out "Mavora" is at the Mt Nic bridge. We don't need any development in this area so keep a lookout for consent applications. Dave

Great effort to all who submitted and went to the all important hearing. Nervous few months ahead though as Lindsay says to see if they appeal.
I haven't fished the Oreti for 20 plus years, so it would be nice for it to be the same unspoiled wilderness in another 20 years.

I've just finished reading the decision. I'm quietly confident that if it were to be appealed to the Environment Court we'd win again. It doesn't comply in a number of ways, more than I realised in my initial submission. The've got either 10 or 15 working days to appeal the decision to the EC I think.
