Hi Everyone

New member to the forum, Live in New Plymouth and fish lake Mangamahoe mostly.  This is your normal lake with damsel, midge and waterboatmen. Predominately stalk the brown trout cruising the edge and use the ambush technique.  Have followed the forum for a while and really enjoy all the contributions and have got to the point were i think i might be able to add something here and there.

Tell us some more about Mangamahoe

I am down in NP for work once a month and want places to head for a fish at the end of the day during summer

Lake Mangamahoe is the storage for the town water in New Plymouth. They also run a hydro plant off it. The lake is shallow with variable levels because of the hydro plant.

Its only a few minutes from town on SH3 and open for fly fishing only year round.

The fish rise to midge and cicadas, but predominately feed sub surface.

It has a resident population of brown trout and F&G stock it with Rainbows every year.

Let me know when your around I can show you a couple of spots.

Nice lake that one albeit challenging, I learnt to fish there too.

Kano, in summer after work there can be an awesome evening rise at the head of the lake where the water is pretty much boiling, the fish would hardly get to 2lb though (in the rise anyway the ones you stalk are bigger).

The inlet is always worth a look too.
