Can someone advise on how the Tongariro is fishing.
I will be on the river in about two weeks for a day and want to fish somewhere I can hook into some trout.
Previous trips I have done reasonably well in the braids below the main bridge --- easy going for a day trip.
Any information will be appreciated.

From reading the reports it would seem the Braids area has been destroyed by earthworks carried out by the council.
There has been a diversion dug to change the flow so it now bypasses several of the pools just below the Braids.
Fortunately it does appear the rest of the river is fishing pretty well, whether it be the Hydro (which always has people in it when I check the webcam images), Breakfast or Major Jones. Even right up top the Blue Pool and others are producing well.
However it seems things are a little busy right now do so the challenge will be finding a spot that hasn't already been thrashed.

garlech pretty much hit it on the head. The Braids is as good as 'don't exist any more'; so head on up river anywhere from SH1 up.
The fishing is pretty good at present so you probably won't get to fish on your own unless you have the fortune of being there mid-week.

Just came back today, fishing on the Tongariro was hard because it needs a good fresh but still picked up about 6 a day. You would be better off fishing the waitahanui or one of the other small rivers.
From judges up is where the fishing is as said above, any of the riffly pools are worth looking at i.e blue, boulder reach, fan etc. as the fish were nowhere to be found in the deeper slower pools.
As for the pressure a 15 minute walk will get you away from most people on the tongas
