Hi I'm coming down to Turangi in a few weeks. I have fished there before so know most of the main streams. Are there any smaller streams worth checking out? Also looking for good places to eat in Turangi? Best regards John

The Waiotaka just out of Turangi is now very nice as the willow and gorse have been cleaned out.
Tauranga-Taupo is very nice, read today that 40% of the access tracks were washed out last week on it though :-(
Haven't fished the Hatepe - have read that its snag infested and over grown, the North Island lads will likely know?
One of my friends rates the Kuratau mouth at night - I have always been too busy tying replacement flies at night to get out for a look!

Yeah there are some small streams near Turangi but you won't hear about them in a public forum.
As for eating places, it depends on what style of food you like. For high volume basic food the Truck Stop at the southern end of the township is hard to beat. Four fish do ok eat-in pizza etc. For something more refined the Italian restaurant has a reasonable rep and the Vinyard restaurant in Graces Rd (north of the SH1 bridge) is very good for a quality dining experience. Tongariro lodge take casual bookings too but aren't cheap.
Tight lines, your timing should be quite good given the recent flood.

Don't go near the public bar either. The Wahine's tend to be very friendly after having been to visit their whanau at Corrland if you get my drift
