Sorry if you have seen this on FB but I'm pretty stoked to have this blank finally come out of the works. I have no end of troubles building this fella, and still have another tip and part of the butt to fix up before I can call the construction part to a end.

The rod is hollow built meaning material has been removed internally every 3.5" long with a 1" dam, leaving a .070" wall thickness. anyways the next photo's I have with it are hopefully complete and with as fish to do it justice.

This is a sacrfed/spliced ferrule, instead of a NS one, it is taped together.

Tip Mid and Butt sections, I flamed the cane for the mottled look

My binder had a catastrophic failure snapping the last 5" off the butt, I will splice a extension back in, and it will be hidden under the rear grip.

Anyways thanks for looking, sorry the photo's are crap, each section is 52.333" long so it's quite hard to fit in the frame.

Cheers

Well after a few months of sitting on my desk I decided to carry on with the Spey, The fore grip is 13.5" long the rear 5.5".

Now to the part I hate the most. Wrapping the guides I detest it  :(
Anyways all going well I should be swinging some big ass flies in the near future, or on by my time management skills this time next year.

Kudo's Matt, you have much more patience than I.  :)

Can you explain how the ferrules fit together?

Thanks Kev, paitence is one thing I wish I could have more of (just ask my wife)
The ferrules are very simple, and use one of the greatest inventions of all time. Duck Tape  :p  The ferrules are basically planed at a 1:20 taper which fit together and are then taped with clear duck tape. Back in the day the would have been whipped together with silk. Makes for a surprisingly strong flexible and light joint.

Cheers

That's pretty cool. Amazing that it would be strong enough.

Hi Matt , That rod looks very nice . You can use the standard black electrical tape as an alternative to duck tape, it is narrower and may be easier to handle.

cheers
Ian

Thanks Ian, Yeah I had heard that standard electrical tape is the way to go. That reminds me I still have your groove cutter here, Flick me your Addy and I'll get it sent back over. Thanks heaps.
