So I been hard at work these last weeks on my first bamboo rod. It will be a 5# 7.5fot rod.
I know its my first rod but I can see myself already building many more, its really fun and I already got plans for the next rod, a short 3# weight rod for the smaller streams here in sweden for trout that aint that big.
Trying to find awesome parts for the rod is going to be fun, I think I want to go all in on this rod as it will be a gift to my dad, engraved slider rings and reel seat, engraved Ferrules etc.
here is a short video clip I took the other day.

Nice one Robert. Something im sure il put my hand to at some point. very enjoyable to fish with a rod you have built yourself. Done it a few times with off the shelf blanks.
Building your own blank takes it to that next level!! Im sure you will get a certain sense of pride every time you fish with it.

Mats öberg, no he is not the one I am building with mate.
I am just doing a beginner rod, a 2 piece 5wt powell ultimate, was recomended by my friend who is helping us out.
My third rod will however be from another classic builder, now I dont know of any good tapers in the 3wt class... any recomendations?

Iank might have a better idea, the only one I have any played with is the SirD 3wt on RodDNA. The F.E.Thomas 7ft 3wt might be worth a look especially if you want to try a swelled butt. I have had a look at it but it seems to turn into a noodle around the 10m mark. Check out RodDNA the free download has heaps of rods to play with. Here's the stress graph for the SirD 3wt from RodDNA

Hi Matt and Rob, I tend to subscribe to the view that there are "sweet" combinations of length and rod weight that work well in Cane. Generally this is 7'6 for #5 , closer to 6'6" - 7' for #4 and around 8' - 8'6" for # 6 . I sort of doubt the use of cane for #3 , but once built a #4 , 7' Sir D which Tony Entwistle said was the nicest #3 he had cast so it depends a lot on casting action and the intended length of cast. Remember the # of the line drops one weight for every 10 foot of cast over 30 feet. This means a #3 line should cast nicely on a #4 rod for a 40 feet cast. ( and Tony E likes long casts)
The Thomas 7' will only have a 6'4" action length with a swelled butt and may work well but it depends somewhat on the intended length of cast. cheers Ian

Hi Ian.
I the #3 rod I will build in the future is going to be used for small fish in tiny creeks, dont need to do long casts with it. If someone here knows of a good #3 please let me know.
I am going to the club this wednesday to do some more on the #5 rod, man I am looking forward to getting it done so I can try it out.
Thanks for the advice Mattyd.

Cool that you are starting out with the boo Robert!! How are you building with? Mats Öbergs rods are true gems, but rather pricy. I cut my own que place this year to be able to go to iceland, so i am also going to build my first rod this winter. ITs going to be a Dickersson 8013, a real TCR of the boo world. Cheers P-A
