It's merlot nylon so has darkened a little when coated... very happy with the color too It matches the burgundy graphite reel seat beautifully too!

So 99% complete, only a loose spigot to fix to be 100% fishable....

Looks good Mike. I have a trent blank, cut into 3, just need to sort out ferrules. Spiggots are obviously the way to go, but I have no idea how to make some.

Kevin, Simple option, measure the blank at the male ferrule and buy some carbon fibre tube around that dia, you will need to get pretty close to that measurement but it's pretty cheap, you can buy it from most hobby shops or online Ferrule Material you may have to sand it down to fit the internal part of the male ferrule, then expoxy in place. For the female ferrule, simply wrap 400grit (and work your way higher) sand paper around the ferrule, and roll the blank back n forth on you knee, testing the fit as you go, you should be able to dial in the ferrule in a couple of minutes (dependent on carbon/spigot sizing) You won't be able to take a huge amount off with out effecting the strength of the ferrule, but I can't see the blank being to far off internally if the original ferrules were cut out.
Hope that may help
Cheers

Thanks Matt. I get what you're saying, just need to think some more about the tapering.

Not sure if it would taper off that much Kev, it's would be only be over a max 3-4" length. I just measured an old Kilwell Fibreglass 8wt I have in the shed. The Taper is less than 1:100
Ferrule length = 2.40" Largest Dia = 0.340" Smaller dia = 0.317"
Taper = 0.958% or 0.023" that's roughly 0.5mm
I'm sure you could sand that out of the carbon tube would have to check Food for thought anyway.
Sorry to hijack Mike, The rod looks mint mate I love proper winding checks - sets the whole thing off!

Your welcome to hi-jack it, I'm intrigued to hear how to do it for the future builds The winding check and hook keep is my favorite bit of the whole build

Yeah, that's not much to sand off Matt. I see you can get solid fibreglass rods as well, don't know if they would sand though.
