A great addition to the fly box both still and moving water at this time of the year.... :cool:



To aid floatation, use moose mane of a few strands of deer or chamois hair for the tail rather than black spade hackle.

Also try it with Coachman Brown, or even Grizzle hackle.  The latter seems to be quite an effective version at times...  (I have tied a Love's Lure "Adams" version with a combination of both hackles but yet to use it)

i have often thought about using "swords " in other patterns (barring loves lure)...any ideas out there ??

I use swords a lot for a variety of patterns... the old "Zug Bug" used to be a favorite prior to the Price, it's better looking cousin turning up.

That's a nice tie Johnno... I do find though they ride better and present a better shilouette if there is body tied in front of the hackle and post also.
