Rear hook- straight eye hook (hook point to be snipped off) In this one the rear hook is a TMC 200R #10 (I like the slight curve in the tail)
Wrap thread and tie in a partridge feather vertically...
Dub a nice taper and tie off... (tan rabbit mix)
Cut off hook bend and sit aside for the next step...
Put front hook in and wrap thread (B800 #10) any long shank streamer hook... I use jewelry wire for the articulation connection as it remains stiff and can be bent loose enough to allow the rear hook plenty of movement. Mount the connection so the wire loop sits at rigt angles to the rear hook eye to keep the rear hook with the tail vertically.
Tie in a set of extra small lead eyes (the one in the photo is a small lead eye, waiting on some extra small eyes) this is only for weight to swim the fly hook point up so tie them back further than normal.
Dub a small ball of dubbing just behind the pair of partiridge feathers... This helps to keep them flared out, also tie the concave (underside of the feather facing out..

Next dub up to just behind the lead eyes and tie in the front pair of feathers... same as before but slightly bigger/longer feathers...

Finally spin on either deer hair or sculpin wool and clip to shape...

I must add thanks to Pete Carty for most of this fly, Pete has put me onto the use of the jewelery wire (and even given me some) for the articulated connection and inspired me to tie this style of fly in the first place. Thanks Pete for all your advise and suggestions...

Very impressive Mike! I've got some of Pete's jewellery wire and it's pretty neat stuff.
One question - is there a reason why you don't leave the trailing hook on? Other than the fact that it looks seriously cool with it chopped off.

I intended this fly to be fished in the lake so my thinking was to have just the one hook weighted to sit point up so I can cast it on the flats in the path of a cruiser then strip it a couple of times to get a bite... being only 50mm in length i fully expect it to be fully inhaled so didn't want 2 hooks getting jambed up in the fishes mouth... Just my thought's you can leave the hook point on if you like....

Mike, you tried it with a straight eyed hook? Wondering if it might swim better?

Mike, thanks very much for taking the time to do a step by step and a very detailed one at that! Really appreciated thanks.
I'll certainly be giving that pattern a go at some stage in the near future.
Cheers Nick

Looking at a couple of options on the tail to increase action, just need to get out and swim a couple of the prototypes...

No worries Nick, only took about 1/2 an hour to tie photograph and upload... Johnno, my thought for the down turned eye (which sits up turned) is to aid in stripping the fly up slightly from the bottom in a resting ambush position... Well that's my concept for my lake but I probably would look at a straight eye hook for the front end if I was to use the pattern somewhere else...
