Jafa's Fat Arsed Bastard pattern:
Hook: Tiemco 9300 size 10 Thread: Black 6-0 Unithread Underbody: 2mm black foam Mid body: 2mm olive foam Wing: pearl krystal flash Legs: medium rubber legs black Head: olive glister dubbing Foam wing: 2mm green foam Over-Head: 2mm green foam.
The basic pattern is as per the Harrison Steeve's Katydid, a bit hard to explain, but google that for overall instructions if you haven't got his book. My variation on that, colours excepted, was to downsize it to 10, add more bulk to the underbody, the method used as in the Hopper Juan pattern, see link.
http://hopperjuan.blogspot.com/2009/05/hopper-juan-tying-steps.html
My reason for the changes was to get more flotation to the body, as the foam over wing "floats" a bit higher off the body and initially i wasn't that confident how much it contributed to the flotation. It seems to have worked. Note that I doubt if it is as much of a floater as the Fat albert fly. (I haven't had a chance at tying that yet.)
I'm really interested in seeing the details of the other patterns, some really great flies that I'm itching to use and then imitate.
Finally, thank you once again for your efforts Johnno.
