I might do a 4 month trip to NZ with my Girlfriend in a near future, but I would need to know a few things before I can make this trip happen.
First I would like to know if its possible to get Unlimited internet service in the following cities.
Christchurch Queenstown Te anau Nelson
I need atleast 20mb per second line.
I would guess that Queenstown is a really nice place to live, it is close to a lot of good fishing and I guess it suits us "younger" people well? I guess I also want my girlfriend to enjoy the place, she is not like me that can live in a truck for a year and fish all day, she needs to go out and be social. Maybe meet some new friends etc while we are over there. I also need her to get her out and about by her self, so I can go fishing haha.
Flats for renting, I dont need anything fancy, just a place that have what we need. I do however need a good stable internet line so I can work from there. how much am I looking to pay for a good flat not to far from everything?
Any good advice is appreciated guys.
Robert

20mb download speeds? - dreaming mate. I'm doing about 9 this morning in Hamilton. And sometimes it's worse.
Luckily fibre optic rollout is in progress. I see that Queenstown is due for upgrade by September 12: http://www.chorus.co.nz/fibre-rollout-map Not sure if they're on track or not.

In my line of work I stream a lot of video live feeds of sports.
So let say I watch 3 tennis matches per day online, each match might take 2 hours and sometimes more, so about 6-8 hours each day of streaming video.
This trip will not take place until my lady is done with school. so not within 1year at least

Yea tender has been let on that one Kevin. Know a few people involved in the construction. Im guessing we wont see the benefits till its actually built however?
On most providers we get at least 40mbs here in QT. I just did a ping test and got 64mbs. So things ain't as bad as other areas of the country. I'm using the provider that part of my apartment complex, although im just about to swap over to a Slingshot plan that's $40+line fee for 50gig. Unlimited plan for $70+line fee.
Accommodation wise it comes down to what kind of place you want. There are heaps of options around town. We rent a nice fully furnished apartment for $550 a week with underfloor heating, satellite TV etc.. all thrown in. Some say that's expensive, but when in winter your heating bills in winter on a place can be $800 a month, i reckon its a pretty good deal.
If you want to have a chat about it Robert, feel free to call me on Skype mate. We relocated here from Australia just over a year ago, so im pretty well placed to advise you on a stay of a few months.
Queenstown is a great place. No fish unfortunately And the country around here is pretty ugly!! Our place is a short walk to town and we often wander down for a drink or desert after tea. Middle of town is a great slice of a large cosmopolitan town, so your girlfriend wont feel like she it living in a hick country town. Great bars and restaurants to enjoy.
Just be warned, once here you will stay a LOT longer than 4 months!

I will contact you for sure once I get closer to the date we decide to travel on.
Well I do hope you are right, I want my GF to fall in love with NZ just as much as I did. Thats my plan with this trip anyway.

Iv been here a year now. My wife didn't used to like the cold (been an Australian). I always figured that my wife would be the one that eventually wanted to go back to Australia, what with the cold and her parents been their.
The other day, she said that there is no way she could ever see a reason for moving away from QT. We have both fallen in love with the place and the people!!

Having just said that i tested again and just got ping 55ms Down 11.2mbps and up of 0.8mbps. (Facepalm)
It can be flake at times. There is only one line down this way, so it comes down to how many people are downloading how much at any one time. Having said that, things should improve dramatically once this new line is up and running.
