I fly into Wellington for a couple of nights in mid November before heading south to Twizel and thought I'd ask if anyone could recommend any good cheap hotels in Wellington city and any tackle shops worth a look at if I have some spare time?
cheers
Kym

Not many left now Kim, just Hunting n Fishing in Lower Hutt, and Hamils in Wellington. They are the main 2.
Always a bed here in Lower Hutt if you get stuck and need a place to crash.  :D

Cheers

cheers Matt thanks for the offer. I'll probably just hunt down some not too sleazy backpackers in town. I hear the YHA is okay  :p

There is a neat wee shop on mackenzie drive a hundred or so meteres north of the main town car park in twizel called "the Hatchery" they only take cash and tie all their own flys ( the hardest of patterns at lightening speedwhile they are talking to you). Its well worth a look. and im not sure if you have fished the area or not but its pretty amazing sight fishing in every little pond and stream. I hope you have a great time.  :)

Hi Quentin
I know The Fly Hatchery well but unfortunately it has recently closed down. Mary Payne who used to run it with her husband Gary has retired. Gary was very sick for quite a while  - I hope I'm wrong but I think he may have passed away.
The Hatchery was a Twizel institution and it won't be the same without it. I'm sure I speak for everyone who has ever called into that wonderful shop, when I wish Mary all the best in the future.

How long are you in Twizel for Kym? I will be in Omarama for about 2 months starting mid December if you are looking for someone to fish with?

Hi Canuck
Sadly, I'll be there for a week or so about a month before you. Better luck catching up next time.
