Ashley River

The Ashley River starts in the hills behind Oxford flows into the sea north of Christchurch, it's a foothill river, and when conditions are right it can provide excellent fishing for Brown Trout. Searuners are caught in the mouth area and lower river. The River can dry in the middle during a long summer. The pretty Gorge is stable with permanent water.

Fish become wary so good presentations are needed to be successful, small nymphs are what has work best for us, and of course the usual dry flies when they are rising
