Well first let me apologies for the lack of a regular newsletter,
growing pains I'm afraid, up until this week Flyshop has been a one man
band, getting orders out & keeping
up with stock has always been the priority, and
often there isn't a lot of time left for other things...
 However
this week Melanie became my first staff member, so I have no more excuses! So
welcome Melanie,
it's great to have your help!
Melanie will be helping in the daily
tasks of dispatch
orders, updating the website, answering emails etc

when they arrived, maybe I'm getting soft as my years increase, having being
brought up on a farm where you tend to make do with what you had, the old No
8 wire approach and the she'll be right attitude seems to be giving way to a
few refinement these days!

Didymo has been causing headaches locally as Mid Canterbury fly fishermen
come to terms with extensive closures to our Iconic High Country Streams.
What has been closed are all the easily accessible high country streams, the
ones that provide clear water when the larger glacial rivers carry snow
melt, which as all locals know can be for all of spring and well into
summer. F&G in an
attempt to try to protect Salmon spawning habitat from this invasive beast
have closed them to all fishing. While I share F&G's concerns, I was very
disappointed in the process and attitude that bought about this decision,
particularly when there was a clear alternative....The logic of closing
streams that don't have Didymo in them when others that do have been allowed
to stay open escapes me.
And some good news if you haven't caught up
with this mornings 'Press'. Is a report that a possible
treatment is close to being ready to test.

It's that lovely time of the year that makes use yearn for the outdoors, warm spring days,
blossom, daffodils, the time of the year when
anticipation mounts as we count down to opening day and our first visit
for the season to one of those favourite locations.
Time to fish the gear
out of the garage and give it the once over, do any repairs, service the
reel, don't forget to grease the main shaft!, give the fly line a good
clean, a stretch and treat with one of the line treatment to make it whistle through
the guides, check all knots and renew leaders and tippets. Sorted the fly
box, patch the waders for those cool spring mornings, find the hat and
where oh where did I leave my Polaroid's....
